VMWS AGM 2012

This is to advise that the Annual General Meeting of the Victorian Medical Women’s Society will be held on Saturday 17th November 2012 at 18:00 sharp. The AFMW AGM will follow at 18:30 hrs sharp.

A seminar titled “E-health” is scheduled to take place prior to the VMWS AGM at 15:30 hrs and will feature speakers Dr Magdalena Simonis, Ms Mayada Dib, Barrister and Ms Judy Evans, e-Health Manager RACGP.

A Dinner will commence following the AGM at 19:00 hrs and will include a Celebration of 125 Years of Australian Women in Medicine and the Constance Stone Oration. This year’s Constance Stone Award recipient is
Dr Kathleen Hayes.

Canapés for a Cause Event
Thursday 27th September 2012, arrive 6:30pm for a 7pm start. St Vincent’s Hospital, 11th Floor Boardroom, Inpatient Services Building.
  

The VMWS invites you to join us for our Canapés for a Cause Event to hear about the human rights, mental and physical health issues of refugees including asylum seekers from an expert panel of presenters. We will also be featuring a poster display of great local human rights projects led by women!

Call for Posters!
The VMWS invites you to submit your poster for inclusion in our upcoming event, ‘Canapés for a Cause: Refugee Health and Human Rights’, for a poster display about local human rights projects that are currently being conducted or have been conducted in the past. Your contribution will be highly regarded. Please email your abstract and contact details to vicevents@afmw.org.au.

 

 

 

The 2012 Lyceum Luncheon was held on Tuesday 24th July 2012, Lyceum Club:

with guest speaker medical oncologist and award-winning author Dr Ranjana Srivastava with “How I Became A Writer and Other Stories” 

Dr. Ranjana Srivastava is a Fulbright scholar, medical oncologist and general physician. Sheis also an award-winning author and social commentator. She writes regularly for the Age, the Week and the New England Journal of Medicine and has started her most recent job as a popular health columnist for the Melbourne Magazine, where she discusses medicine and society. Ranjana is married with three young children. 
In this lunchtime talk, Ranjana traced the journey of her writing career and the inspirationsbehind her work. She discussed the dilemmas in discussing real patients and the lessons learned from writing about them. She offered insight into the challenges of publishing and some practical tips for the aspiring writer.

 

 

 

 

‘Talk the Talk: The Junior Doctor Interview’ Was held on Wednesday, May 30th 2012, AMA House.
Speakers: A/Prof Deb Colville, Dr Ros Terry, Intern panel: Dr Sarah Heynemann, Dr Skye Siskos and Dr Madhura Naidu.

This event was aimed at junior doctors and medical students; and anyone else applying for a medical job! From “How is a group interview conducted?”, to “What are some of the types of questions which I will be asked”? this workshop helped participants prepare for their upcoming medical job interviews.
